Thank you for continuing to pray for us as we prepare to move to Malawi! Over the last month we've been very busy taking care of a lot of details (and a lot of regular life with five kids things too!). We wanted to take a moment to update you on the Lord's work and ask you again to pray with us. Thank you for your faithful partnership! We are so thankful for each of you and the ways God has used you to encourage our hearts through your prayers and support!
Update on Our Move
Packing continues...night and day it seems! These last few weeks we have made continual progress on packing up all our earthly possessions in preparation to ship them to Africa. Most days our house looks like an Amazon.com warehouse. Last week it looked like a campus bookstore as we began to receive 2 years worth of home school curriculum. We hope to ship our container within the next two weeks, Lord willing. The immanence of the move is feeling very real as we pack up books, games, and toys that the kids play with on regular basis. Please pray for diligence and wisdom as we finish the packing and shipping process.
Update on Life & Ministry
The month of April just seemed to fly by. Brianne and I had the opportunity to share about adoption at a local conference and I was privileged to get to share the gospel at the end of the event. We were able to get away for a little vacation time with some of Brianne's family as well. This week we enjoyed a visit from Matt's brother and his family and we are looking forward to a visit by Matt's parents at the very beginning of June. We are all enjoying the time we get to spend with family.
Andrew had another check up on his kidney in late April. The ultrasound showed that his kidney is almost completely normal. We are praising God for His provision in caring for Andrew! At this point, it looks like Andrew will be fine for the foreseeable future other than an occasional check up on his kidney over the years. The doctor was gracious enough to give us his personal email address so that if we had any issues in Malawi we could email him and he would help coordinate medical care. We see God's kindness in so many ways!
On the ministry end, we are coming into the home stretch of our church's ministry year. Matt is currently teaching a Sunday school class on the topic of the church. It will run through the end of June. Brianne is teaching the pre-school Sunday school class. The kids are sad that AWANA is nearly over for the year...just a couple more weeks!
Update on Our Financial Support
We praise God for his continual provision of support. We are now officially at 85% of our needed monthly support! We are at 89% on our one-time, outgoing expenses as well. It has been an incredible joy to see God at work in the hearts of all of our ministry partners as you pray fervently and give joyfully. We praise God for you and your partnership in the gospel! Please pray with us that in the weeks ahead God would connect us with additional ministry partners, both churches and individuals, and provide the rest of the needed finances. There are a couple of churches that we are in various stages of communication with...please pray that God might continue to grow these church connections. I have included information on financial support at the bottom of this email if the Lord would be leading you to support us in that way. We are trusting the Lord to provide the additional funds so that we can arrive in Malawi before the start of CAPA in August. Please pray with us!
We are thanking and praising the Lord for answered prayer already:
Time to spend with our extended families
The healing of Andrew's kidney
God's provision of financial support
The accessibility of all that we have needed to purchase in order to ship to Africa
God's faithful and un-ending love for us in Christ
We would love your prayers in the following ways:
That we would walk closely with the Lord, finding our joy in Him amidst of purchasing, packing, and planning to ship our container.
For wisdom for the final details and timing of shipping our container.
For God's provision of a house for us to rent in Malawi that would fit the needs of our family and be a tool for ministry.
That the government of Malawi would quickly process Matt's Temporary Employment Permit (TEP) that he needs to work in the country.
For Matt as he prepares to preach at a church family camp in the Detroit area June 10-12.
That God would be preparing our hearts, our bodies, and our family for this big move.
For quick processing of our adopted children's passports. We just received rejections today because they want additional documentation to prove citizenship. Please pray that these precious original documents do not get lost and that we receive passports soon!
For God's provision of the final portions of our monthly and one-time expenses.
Thank you for your prayers! We look forward to rejoicing with you as God answers them.
And we would love to hear from you! If you have a moment, and especially if we haven't seen you recently, feel free to reply to this email and let us know how you are doing and how we can pray for you. It would be our joy.
For His glory in California and Malawi,
Matt and Brianne
