We made it to Malawi! Thank you for your continued prayer and support! We are thankful to share of God's continual kindness to us in bringing us here safely.
Our Trip to Malawi
On Friday night we had an incredible group of supporters from our sending church, Faith Bible Church in Orange County come out to LAX to see us off.
After enjoying 2 days in New York with Brianne's mom and step-dad, we arrived safely in Malawi on Tuesday afternoon. Our travel was generally uneventful. Our connection in Johannesburg ended up being very tight, but after jumping to the front of a security line and basically running the length of the airport, we made it to our last plane for the quick trip into Lilongwe (or at least if felt quick after the 15 hours to Johannesburg…and because 5 out of 7 of the family were asleep). Unfortunately, only half of our luggage made it to Malawi with us on Tuesday. But today (Thursday) we were able to pick up the remaining bags! We thank the Lord for this blessing.
What We've Been Up To...
On our first day, we had the chance to visit with the Floreens a bit and then go see our new house. It needs some TLC and some basic improvements, but it is a great house and we are thankful for place to recharge and also to host ministry gatherings. We are hoping to be moved in around September 1st and would appreciate your prayers for that.
On Wednesday we started by waking our kids up at 9:00 AM, which proved to be no small feat as jet lag has taken its toll. We spent the day unpacking, exchanging money, getting SIM cards for phones and setting up to make payments for our utilities. Matt Floreen and I (Matt) also got a chance to go view the property that IBF Church bought. It was exciting to look out over that piece of land and dream of what God will do there for His glory in the months and years ahead.
Today (Thursday), we went out and did a little shopping as family (just the basics: rope, bungee cords, a pump for the air mattress, and chocolate). After that we enjoyed pizza for lunch at a local restaurant before heading over the house to start a list of improvements that we need to do or have done. In the afternoon, Rachel took Brianne around town and showed her a local clinic and a variety of different shops and markets. I took the kids (with the help of friend and co-laborer Dave Temple) to the airport where we found all 8 of our missing bags plus our booster seats waiting for us.
Two out of our three nights here, families from the church have dropped of delicious meals for dinner...thank you Temples and Hirotos! This has been a great blessing to us and the Floreens.
Tomorrow (Friday) we plan to go over the new house and do some more list-making as well as some cleaning. And of course always enjoying the Floreens' dogs as we wait until we can get our own.
Thank you for continued prayers, love, and support as we work to get settled here, set up our home, and begin ministry. If anyone wants to connect with us Facebook or Instagram, we are posting additional pictures there too. We want to give you a glimpse into life in Malawi!
We are thanking and praising the Lord for answered prayer:
Safe travels to Malawi
The graciousness of the Floreens to host us while we get our house ready
God's provision of a house in Malawi
God's provision of financial support
God's faithful and un-ending love for us in Christ
We would love your prayers in the following ways:
That we would walk closely with the Lord, finding our joy in Him each day.
That the government of Malawi would quickly process Matt's Temporary Employment Permit (TEP) that he needs to work in the country.
That our container would make it through customs quickly, and would not incur any fees.
That we would quickly build relationships with those both inside the church and outside.
For our children - first and foremost that they would love the Lord - but also that they would transition well to life here in Malawi.
For IBF Church in Malawi as they prepare for the transitions ahead. Please pray that the members of the church would find their security in Christ.
For CAPA and the process of getting accredited
Thank you for your prayers! They means so much to us each day.
And we would love to hear from you! If you have a moment, feel free to reply to this email and let us know how you are doing and how we can pray for you. It would be our joy.
For His glory in Malawi,
Matt and Brianne
