Kopp Family Malawi Update - June 2016
View this email in your browser

Dear Family and Friends,

Thank you for your continued prayer and support! The last few weeks have been an absolute whirlwind and we have lots to catch you up on. We also have some prayer requests in the box at the bottom and we would love to have you intercede on our behalf for these specific things.

 Update on Our Move

After weeks of prepping...

...and packing the house...

...and packing Matt's office...

We finally shipped our container off to Malawi!

Lord willing it will arrive safely in Lilongwe in a couple of months...and we will too! Until then we will be living on borrowed furniture (thank you Buck family!) and plastic silverware (thank you Costco!). It is a huge relief to have the container shipped. Please pray that it makes to Malawi safely and in a timely manner.

Update on Life & Ministry

The last month has been a bit of a wild ride, but our family has felt God' sustaining grace each step along the way. In addition to all the packing and shipping, Matt had the privilege of preaching on the topic of adoption at Anchor Bible Church in Redlands, CA. After the service there was a Q & A luncheon to discuss adoption and orphan care. It was a wonderful Sunday and we are encouraged by all that God is doing at Anchor...and we look forward to seeing their teaching pastor, Todd Barnett, at CAPA this fall! Next week, Matt leaves for the Detroit area to preach at a family camp for Hope in Christ Bible Church. Peter Smith, pastor of Hope in Christ, was instrumental in God's work of giving us a passion for biblical missions. It is a joy to get to partner with him and the body at Hope in Christ.

On the family front, we had the privilege of going out to dinner and a musical as family last week. It was refreshing to take one evening off from packing (and thinking about packing). Matt's parents are with us this weekend, enjoying one last visit to Southern California. We are also in our last days of school for the year. The kids and their teacher (Brianne) are very excited to welcome Summer Break!

At our church in Orange County, FBC, we are officially winding down the ministry year and our responsibilities week to week. Matt has handed off the reigns of youth ministry and only has a couple more weeks of his Sunday School class to teach. He will also be preaching at church on July 17.

At the end of June, we are headed to Spokane, Washington. We will be driving up the coast and coming to visit friends and family. On Sunday, July 3 we will be at Christ our Hope Bible Church. If you are in the Spokane area, we would love to see you! We are looking to have an open house or two while we are in the area - we'll get more information out about that as the date draws nearer. We'll return to Southern California for a couple of weeks after our Spokane trip. Our official send-off service is planned for July 24th and, Lord willing, we will be leaving for Malawi the following week! We greatly appreciate your prayers during the weeks ahead...and we hope to get to spend time with as many of you as possible.

Update on Our Financial Support

We continually praise God for his provision of support. We are now officially at 89% of our needed monthly support!  We are at 90% on our one-time, outgoing expenses as well. Securing the last portion of our funding is one of the last major things we need to do before we can buy our tickets and make our final plans for departure. It has been an incredible joy to see God at work in the hearts of all of our ministry partners as you pray fervently and give joyfully. We praise God for you and your partnership in the gospel! Please pray with us that in the weeks ahead God would connect us with additional ministry partners, both churches and individuals, and provide the rest of the needed finances. There are a couple of churches that we are in various stages of communication with...please pray that God might continue to grow these church connections. I have included information on financial support at the bottom of this email if the Lord would be leading you to support us in that way. We are trusting the Lord to provide the additional funds so that we can arrive in Malawi before the start of CAPA in August. Please pray with us!

We are thanking and praising the Lord for answered prayer already:
  • Time to spend with our extended families
  • Getting the container shipped
  • God's provision of financial support
  • God's faithful and un-ending love for us in Christ
We would love your prayers in the following ways:
  • That we would walk closely with the Lord, finding our joy in Him each day.
  • For God's provision of a house for us to rent in Malawi that would fit the needs of our family and be a tool for ministry.
  • That the government of Malawi would quickly process Matt's Temporary Employment Permit (TEP) that he needs to work in the country.
  • For Matt as he prepares to preach at a Hope in Christ Bible Church family camp in the Detroit area June 10-12.
  • That God would be preparing our hearts, our bodies, and our family for this big move.
  • For quick processing of our adopted children's passports. We sent in original copies of key additional documentation to prove citizenship. Please pray that these precious original documents do not get lost and that we receive passports soon!
  • For our children - first and foremost that they would love the Lord -  but also that we would parent them with consistency and grace during this transition time.
  • For IBF Church in Malawi as they prepare for the transitions ahead. Please pray that the members of the church would find their security in Christ.
  • For CAPA and the process of getting accredited and for wisdom in pursuing land for both CAPA and the church.
  • For God's provision of the final portions of our monthly and one-time expenses.
Thank you for your prayers! We look forward to rejoicing with you as God answers them.

And we would love to hear from you! If you have a moment, and especially if we haven't seen you recently, feel free to reply to this email and let us know how you are doing and how we can pray for you. It would be our joy.

For His glory in California and Malawi,
Matt and Brianne
