Thank you for your prayers and support in our journey to Malawi!
The beginning of the year has brought about an exciting season for our family. Our house and garage have been slowly filling up with many items necessary for life in Malawi: a battery charging kit, a new tent and first aid kit, extra towels for when you all come to visit us (just throwing that out there now so you can save up your frequent flier miles!), water filters for our drinking water, and new suitcases. There is a growing excitement as these items arrive and as we continue our preparations for transitioning our family to life and ministry in Africa.
On the family front, we want to thank you for your prayers for Andrew. We are so thankful for the care we have received and the clarity the Lord has allowed in taking care of the kidney issue that came to the surface in December. After a series of appointments and tests, we were thankful to hear that Andrew has enough kidney function to keep his kidney! He still does have to have surgery to correct the issue and that’s scheduled for Tuesday, January 26th at 7:30am PST. We would appreciate your prayers for next Tuesday that the surgery would go well, that Andrew's heart would be at peace through it all, that we would trust in God's grace, and that we would have opportunities to tell others about our great God.
In our Christmas email, we passed along the praise that our court appointment for the girls' re-adoption went well. In addition to that, we have now received Zoe's California birth certificate, which is another huge praise. The clerk who issues the birth certificate even discovered a mistake she had made on Josiah's birth certificate earlier in the year, so she sent us a corrected version! Unfortunately, the adoption courts put a wrong birthday down on one of Ellie's documents, so the state cannot issue her a birth certificate yet. Please pray that we would be able to get this document fixed and get Ellie's birth certificate so that we can work toward getting all of the children US Passports.
On the support front, we will be presenting at our sending church, Faith Bible Church, on Sunday, February 14th during the main service. The service starts at 10:15 AM. We meet in Laguna Niguel, if you are interested in coming and hearing us present, we would love to see you there. Here is a link for directions. We are also working on planning a time to come and present our ministry to those of you in Spokane, WA in the near future. We will share those details with you as soon as we are able to finalize a date and location. If you attend a church that might be interested in hearing about the Lord’s work in Malawi, we would love to talk with you!
Thank you for all of your ongoing prayers and support. We have included some specific prayer requests in the box below. And as always, we would love to hear from you if there are ways that we can be praying.
We love you all and thank God for you!
Matt, Brianne, and the kids.
Join with us in praising the Lord for:
God's kindness in making Andrew's kidney condition known now so that we can treat it before we leave for Malawi.
God's provision of Zoe's California birth certificate.
A wonderful church family, committed to the Great Comission, that loves and supports its missionaries.
God's provision of a wonderful partnership with our sending agency, GMI.
We would love your prayers in the following ways:
That God would be glorified through all the events of Andrew's surgery next week.
That the paperwork issues for Ellie's CA birth certificate would be resolved.
That we would walk closely with the Lord, finding our joy in Him each day.
That God would be preparing our hearts, our bodies, and our family for this big move.
That God would be glorified in the ministries at Faith Bible Church that that we have the privilege of being involved in...and especially for our Youth Group Winter Camp coming up the first weekend in February.
For prayer and financial support partners to join us, including additional partner churches
Thank you for your prayers! We look forward to rejoicing with you as God answers them.
For His glory in California, Malawi, and everywhere between ~
Matt and Brianne
